Good job – or not at all, right?
I might be a pragmatic elitist (I admit!) but I do believe that you either do a good job – or don’t do the job at all. Put your heart in it a 100% or don’t even bother. This should be natural state of mind for every professional on the planet. Right?
For me, it’s not even about the end results. Everyone is a newbie at some point, and you can not demand the same from a fresh face as from a veteran. That I understand. A person doing her very best in any given situation is a star in my book, regardless of the outcome. If she tries her hardest, I am her biggest fan. But if she half asses anything, she doesn’t need to even show up.
I live by example and don’t half ass things. I might not do them at all, but then I’ll tell you straight away. However, if I accept an assignment, I go all in. Because if I am being mediocre on purpose, that says more about me as a professional (or… human, really) than anything else, from my CV to track record or even reputation. I am automatically making myself unbookable. Do you know what I mean?
I might have the cure for creative business thinking, but at this point I need your help – how do we stop all the half assing in the world? Please tell me! Let’s start a movement together! We can fix it! Right?
